Bristol Braille is a Social Enterprise centred in the Bristol Hackspace. We’ve been building the Canute for six years. There are about a dozen of us and we come from all manner of backgrounds. Some of us are engineers, designers, others specialise in supporting accessible products.

All of us came through either the Hackspace or the Braillists. Everyone on the team is deeply committed to see the project through to completion and have often volunteered their labour when the project was struggling.

We rely very heavily on the feedback, design and knowledge of a community group of hundreds of Braille readers called the Braillists, and on the Hackspace’s tools and collective skills.

Thanks

Particular thanks must go to the redoubtable N Krishnaswamy, the endlessly patient Keith Shaw, and all 280 plus Braillists. Without the encouragement and criticism of these people Bristol Braille Technology would never have reached the stage it is at now, or, indeed, have got anywhere at all.
